"HEALING DENTURE"
INSTRUCTIONS
(719) 384-8703
Congratulations! You have now entered the world of dentures with all its peculiarities. You will need a few instructions to help you on the path to successful denture usage. Also during the healing and transition period the following information will be helpful.
- Take your prescribed medication as directed.
- If possible, leave your denture in place for 2 days and nights, rinsing your mouth with the denture in place. Due to possible swelling, remove your dentures for a short time only, or they may not go back into place.
- When you remove your denture scrub the denture with the denture brush and rinse your tissues with warm salt water. Avoid commercial mouthwashes.
- We will remove your sutures in 7-14 days and check your healing status.
- You can start using a denture adhesive after the sutures are removed.
- Even though we have done our utmost to remove tight areas that will cause denture sores, it is possible that some will still arise. Please call so we can evaluate the situation and see if an adjustment is needed. Some sores are part of the healing sequence and need no adjustment.
- Using your dentures in speaking, swallowing, and chewing will require practice and patience.
Determination and persistence help immensely.
Until you are ready for the actual denture, we will be seeing you for periodic adjustments and temporary relines. This will compensate for the shrinkage and remodeling that is part of the healing process. It could take as long as one year before your jaws have slowed down their contour changes. We will start your new denture as soon as your tissues have stopped shrinking.
OUR GOALS To give you the treatment you desire and deserve, (using all our education, experience and even some "tricks" of the trade), to remove all reasonable obstacles, and to create a successful denture experience.
But Because:
- Denture fabrication is mostly ART and a little science.
- One human is treating another human.
- Communication is not perfect.
- Every Jaw is not ideal.
We cannot guarantee you will be a successful denture wearer!
